One of the very first topics that I covered when I launched my blog was essential oils. Oils are one of the first things that I purchased when I transitioned to a healthier lifestyle. I was having the most awful headaches and Peppermint oil came to my rescue. It wasn’t long before a close friend of mine told me about this company called Young Living and how I could get 11 oils and a diffuser for about $160! I didn’t have a lot of money to invest into oils and diffusers for my home so I saw that joining and getting the wholesale membership was the best option for me. When you join as a consultant with Young Living, you get a 24% off discount on all of your purchases. I saw this as the best option for myself because of the price point and the fact that I trust where these oils are sourced.
You have to be careful what essential oils you invest in because not all oils are made the same. If you are balking at the price point of certain oils (example: one that is $32) and you find it for ($5) at Walmart, ITS NOT A GOOD DEAL! Why? It’s cheaper for a reason and it’s not because it works. That $32 bottle of the same oil is PURE verses the $5 that’s been made with fillers and will not work as good as the pure bottle because it’s probably 1/50 pure oil. In turn, that means that you will have to buy more of the $5 oil and probably end up spending the same amount as the $32 bottle in the long run without as great of results. I also deter from buying cheap oils because we don’t know what fillers that company used so it can be potentially harmful for yourself and your family to inhale or absorb through your skin.
When you buy the Young Living starter kit, not only do you get a diffuser to diffuse your oils throughout your home (think: candles or wax warmers without the toxic chemicals – read about why we don’t use those HERE) but you get 11 “everyday” essential oils. It wasn’t until I took at deeper look at all the synthetics and chemicals we put into our bodies on a daily basis that I started to change my habits–for myself and for those I loved and cared about very much. We now use the oils for EVERYTHING in our home! I use oils to calm the kids, promote healthy sleep for our entire family, boost my energy, balance emotions in our home, and others just to make the house smell way better than anything you’ll find elsewhere. There are 11 FULL-SIZE 5 ML bottles of Essential Oils included and you get the Diffuser, which alone costs $100! Your kit comes with the Premium Essential Oils Collection:
Stress Away™ 5-ml (bonus oil!)
AromaGlide™ Roller Fitment

10 Sample Cards to Share With Others
10 Sample Oil Bottles to Share With Others

Now, here is where I am not fully committed to buying products from the same company. After looking at the ingredients in their personal care products and supplements, I have chosen not to use those items and just stick with the essential oils. Young Living buys their personal care products and supplements from other third parties and do not actually make them themselves so for that reason and what I found when I looked at the ingredients, I choose to purchase those items elsewhere. In addition to that, I also buy my diffusers from Amazon. I love my Young Living diffusers but I don’t want to pay $68 per diffuser. I have a diffuser in each room of my home and I have found that these work just as well (they do not run as long but it’s ok…) and this one is my ultimate favorite because it’s also a humidifier and has a light that changes colors and works perfectly for a night light.
I diffuse oils every single day, for different reasons… if I need something for focus I diffuse Peppermint, Frankincense, Rosemary and Orange, calming I diffuse Lavender, Bergamot, Patchouli and Orange, sleep I diffuse Lavender and Cedarwood, upbeat mood Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon and Ylang Ylang. For cold and flus my favorite oils are Thieves, Purification and RC. I personally use Stress Away as my perfume and it’s also what replaced my anti-depressant. I use the blend Mister for Derrek’s cologne and it smells SO good! There are also oils that are great for hair regrowth like Cedarwood, Lavender and Rosemary… you can put those right into your shampoo bottle and shake to mix. Massage your scalp for a few minutes then rinse. For teething babies I always use Copaiba and Frankincense, diluted with coconut oil and applied to the outside of the mouth along the jawline. I try and follow the one to one ratio when it comes to using essential oils on children… 1 drop of essential oil to one tablespoon of coconut oil. I don’t really apply most oils to children, I put them down the spine (for example: Thieves) and also on the bottoms of their feet and put socks on. I buy these roller ball bottles off of Amazon and most grocery stores carry liquid coconut oil. You can go to the Young Living website and see what oils are safe to use on small children and also pregnant women. Not all essential oils shouldn’t be used on certain people so it’s in your best interest to do a little research before you buy. I also love this guidebook that you can buy on Amazon.
I hope that answers most of your questions about essential oils. If I didn’t answer your questions, please feel free to comment on this post or email me. I would love to chat with you and get you started on your oil journey. If you are confident and ready to take the plunge and purchase your wholesale account, you can do so here.
