I posted a picture on my social media a few weeks ago about how we holistically treat colds and coughs in our family. Ever since that post, I’ve had a lot of questions via emails and private messages about how that all works. Five years ago, I met Derrek and become very involved with learning more about a healthy lifestyle. I changed my entire outlook on life and how to take care of my body and our children. I can happily say that no one in my family has taken prescription medicine since that turning point. Our kids aren’t perfect little bodies that never get sick, but when they randomly do, we know that it’s better for their immune systems to deal with it as naturally as possible. This approach actually leads to stronger immunity. This doesn’t mean that we let them suffer it out, but we have researched and found effective remedies for those occasions. Treating our bodies without modern medicine means that we actually know more than just the average Joe because we have taken the time to research and learn. We don’t run for the doctor and ask them “what’s wrong?” or “what should we do?” We don’t feel like we have to because of all the time we have put into researching what we should do for ourselves and our kids. The first thing we do when anyone gets sick is get them a chiropractic adjustment, and then we go about treating them with essential oils and another great “secret weapon” in our medicine cabinet, Wedderspoon honey products.
Nolan recently had a horrible cough, and because I am super pregnant and want the air cooler than normal, sleeping in colder air seemed to be making it worse. To treat it, he was adjusted by Derrek, we applied Young Living’s RC essential oil blend for coughs, and, most importantly, he started eating a tablespoon of Wedderspoon honey and using their echinacea honey cough drops. This combo cleared his cough up within days AND made his immune system grow stronger to fight off the next attack that he may face.
I am so thankful for finding the Wedderspoon brand because I know the importance of honey for the body. My dad is a beekeeper, and I have grown up eating honey and honey products and learning about what they do for your body. Honey calms inflamed membranes and eases a cough. In a study that involved 139 children, honey beat out dextromethorphan (a cough suppressant) and diphenhydramine (an antihistamine) in easing nighttime cough in children and improving their sleep. By using natural products versus chemical-filled medicines, we are building our immune systems up rather than breaking them down.
Head over to the Wedderspoon website and check out all of the wonderful products they have to offer. Add them to your medicine cabinet and you’ll wonder why you didn’t make the change earlier!
