Life with children is such a new world! You are no longer the only focus of your life. Instead, you now you have to spend most of your time focusing on your children’s needs. I never realized how simple life with Nolan was until Harper came along! Looking back now, having one baby was almost a cake walk! One of the things that I never thought about when we were deciding on number two was how naps would work. In a perfect world, both babies go take their naps at the same time and Mom gets to spend that time pampering herself, right? WRONG! I can count on one hand how many times my kids have taken a nap at the same time.
It’s really hard to keep Harper asleep while Nolan is awake during her nap, and I pull out all the tricks with quiet activities for him. It’s also unbelievable how incredibly different two children can be. Nolan could sleep hard and fast through a tornado, but you can blink your eyes and Harper will wake up. To help her take a decent nap we have set up a little naptime routine. She nurses while Derrek gets the bedroom ready by turning a box fan (for noise) on, putting lavender in the diffuser (for deep sleep) and getting her Dock-A-Tot and a soft blanket (pictured with Harper is her Little Unicorn bamboo muslin quilt) ready.
A Dock-A-Tot “is a multi-functional lounging, playing, chilling, resting and snuggling dock for baby and tots 0-36 months.” I found this product a few months ago on Instagram and became so amazed. Harper is such a light sleeper, and when I try and leave her side, she wakes up immediately or within a few minutes because she is so used to my snuggles. The day that we got it and laid her in it for the first time to take a nap, she slept for three hours! In the mom world (or at least my mom world), that’s a BIG deal! With the Dock-A-Tot, she still feels like she is snuggled close with Mama because of its cocoon design. I love that the materials used to make them are all micromanaged to make sure that they are all of the highest quality of breathability, non-toxicity, comfort and convenience. We travel with our business, and this is the perfect travel sleep station for her!
The plush sides help keep her from rolling around and falling off of the bed. We have the Grand in Pristine White, I did this so it would blend with our all white bedding and because it is gender neutral. The Grand is suited for babies 9-36 months, and because of the bumper rails it helps them transition easier to a bigger bed later. Another feature that I love is that the end unbuckles for extra length. Nolan unbuckles it and jumps in with a blanket to watch a movie or read a book during his quiet time. If you have an infant-9month old, the micro is the way to go! It fits into (most) cribs, bassinets, strollers and swings to give that extra layer of snuggle for your baby! I love that the material is a breathable cotton and the covers are zippered for easy disassembly and washing.
I can say with all sincerity that the sleep quality Harper gets now that she naps in the Dock-A-Tot is NOTICEABLY different and we have all benefited from it. I suggest this product to all of you with children in hopes that your sweet babies start having better naptimes, leaving you mamas with some relaxation time of your own!
