Now that the weather in South Carolina is staying in the mid 80s, any chance we get, we head to the beach! With little ones in tow, a simple beach trip can turn into a disaster by over-packing items that you really don’t use when you get on the beach. The best thing about taking the kids to the beach is that the entertainment is all around them! They really do not need a large assortment of toys to focus on when they are surrounded by such an amazing location. I have simplified our beach packing down to a science because of how often we frequent the coast, and I decided to share my essentials with y’all!
1. Sunscreen – Honest Co. –
This is the most important thing that you should always make sure you pack for your babies when heading to the beach. We follow skin conditioning in our day-to-day lives, but when the sun amps up on the shore, we make sure to slather the kids every 60 minutes with this organic spf. We use organic sunscreen to avoid toxic chemicals that fill “regular” name brands. Honest is naturally derived, unscented and water resistant.
2. Sunscreen – Balibody –
Derrek and I want to catch beach tans while we’re in the sun, but we have become very conscious of keeping our skin protected while we’re outside. I found Balibody on Instagram and ordered the same day! Their body oil is 100% natural mist that keeps our skin hydrated and gives us a great glow. It’s made with grape seed, coconut, olive, and jojoba oils so it has tons of nutritional properties.
3. Beach Blanket – the Beach Blanket –
When we want to cut down the amount of things we are toting to the beach, we skip the beach chairs and opt for this blanket instead. I found it on Amazon and I fell in love! This microfiber beach blanket has pockets in four corners to weigh down with sand and the microfiber dries the blanket quickly. We take tons of snacks when we go and the kids look for a place to retreat to during their eating sessions, so they eat picnics on the blanket.
4. Cooler – Lilly Pulitzer –
In the past, when we would head to the beach, we would take this huge cooler on wheels and it would bog down in the sand on the way in and out. I would get so frustrated every trip until I decided to break the cycle and vow to not take something that causes such aggravation during my trip that’s supposed to be for relaxation. For Mother’s Day this year, Derrek bought me this Lilly Pulitzer cooler and we have already gotten such good use out of it! I love how it has compartments on the outside so we can keep our non-chilled snacks, and it’s the perfect size to keep our drinks and food cold. Sometimes we even take a watermelon we pre-cut and it all fits snuggly.
5. Spiker – Carolina Peach Impressions –
If there is one thing I cannot stand at the beach is a sandy drink! It gives me chills; it creeps me out so badly. Thanks to my friend Lauren at Carolina Peach Impressions, I have a beach spiker that keeps my drinks from getting sandy while we’re at the beach. I picked a peach one with my initials in gold, and I am giving one to Derrek for Father’s Day. I have a discount code to share with my followers for 20% off their spiker. Use code: southernlife20 at checkout.
6. Kid’s cups – Replay Recycled –
As I stated earlier, one of my beach pet peeves is a sandy drink. As messy as the kids get and as hard as they play, a drink is always needed for them. I hate how regular cups get sand in them when the kids drink from them. A light bulb clicked in my head the other day and told me to take their no-spill Replay Recycled cups to the beach. There is NO WAY for sand to get in those bad boys! I always pack water and juice and just refill as needed, and with these cups, the kids have a non-sandy drink.
7. Toys – Melissa and Doug Sand Ice Cream –
Nolan and Harper can entertain themselves solely on their surroundings at the beach. We like to take this sand toy bucket with us when we go because it keeps the perfect amount of toys to take to keep the kids content. They love building things in the cups and digging with the scooper. It’s so cute, and I just give everything a quick spray down at the beach access before we head home.
8. Beach Bag – Mud Pie –
I take ONE bag to the beach to corral all of our belongings. I purchased it a few years ago from Seven Boutique, and I use it for EVERYTHING. It is the perfect size and material, and it was only $17! I got mine monogrammed at the store. They have so many options to choose from that the ways you can customize it are endless.
9. Baby Powder – Honest Co –
The only downside to hitting the beach is getting sand everywhere! When we get off the beach we hose off as much as we can and dry off with a clean towel and rub down with baby powder. It magically repels the sand and we can travel home without feeling so icky. We love using this Honest Co. Brand because it comes in Harper’s diaper bundle and is organic without all of the toxic chemicals (and I multipurpose for my second day hair).
10. Towels – Target –
When you go the beach, towels are a must! I cannot imagine a more disastrous trip than one when you don’t take a towel. I love nicer ones from Vera Bradley and Lilly Pulitzer, but with kids I like to keep everything simple. Target has the cutest prints, and getting them monogrammed makes them 10x cuter. I like to pick out a new one for each of us every year to become our designated beach towels.
